The City Parks people should be comened for the work on going on the Leon Creek Greenbelt walking/bike path extentions. They are currently working on 2 sections. One is from Babcock Rd northwest to UTSA Blvd. The basic land clearing for the path is done and the first section of asphault has been laid. The second is from Bandera Rd south to Grissiom Rd. The dirt work and drainage is well along. At the rate the construction company is moving we will have a fine safe path very soon.
How should this fine new path be brought out to the public? One of my friends had a great idea. The City or an interested charity should put on a Time Trial. Call it Leon Creek Greenbelt Time Trial (LCGTT). This pathway in this current layout looks like about 10 miles. 10 miles would make a nice run but an out and back format of 20 miles would be more interesting. The Tour de Gruene is an out and back format of 16 miles. They get lots of entry from all over the state. What could San Antonio do! We need to find ways to encourage our people to get off the sofa and get on a bike. San Antonio was rated by Men’s Health magazine as the 7 fatest city in the nation. http://health.msn.com/weight-loss/articlepage.aspx?cp-documentid=100257787>1=31036
A bike race would encorage locals, boost tourisum by bringing in a few more visters and boost the local bike shops and suppyers. San Antonio lets race!
