David Dillon – June 2008

Douglas County sheriff’s deputy David Dillon was lost while riding a bicycle on Saturday, June 28th near Eudora, Kansas.  According to a Kansas Highway Patrol accident report, Dillon was riding west on North 1400 Road, about one mile west of Eudora, when he was struck from behind.  According to a report issued by the Kansas Highway Patrol, the driver was “distracted by a cell phone and other electronic devices during the accident.”  The report indicates that inattention and failure to yield the right-of-way by the driver were contributing circumstances in the wreck.”

David Dillon joined the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in 1982 as a corrections officer and rose to the rank of lieutenant. During his tenure, he was an instructor of the D.A.R.E. program and was involved in the start-up and opening of the new county jail in 1999.  At the time of his death, at 44, he held the assignment of Corrections Operations for the Douglas County Jail. Survivors include his parents, of Overbrook; and two daughters, Meghan and Molly, both of Olathe.
